Professor Kalwant Bhopal is Professor of Education and Social Justice and Director of the Centre for Research in Race and Education (CREE) at the University of Birmingham.

As part of Aston University's Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) week, the College of Business and Social Sciences is hosting a free online event with Professor Kalwant Bhopal.

The virtual event will take place on Microsoft Teams on Tuesday 27th April from 10:30 to 11:30 BST. You will be sent a link to access the event once you have registered through Eventbrite.

Professor Bhopal will address the following topics in her talk:

  • Intersectionality in higher education in the UK (primarily between gender and race; in the context of recruitment, representation, and discrimination; both staff and students).
  • Her assessment, informed by her research, of Athena Swan and the Race Charter and their relationship with each other.
  • The question of what universities should do to achieve equality, diversity and inclusion among staff and students.

There will be allotted time for a live Q&A session.
