Anne Boden, Starling Bank
  • Anne Boden is the founder of Starling Bank and has been CEO since 2014
  • She has also held senior roles at various banking groups including Aon, RBS and AIB
  • Professor Boden will work within Aston University’s College of Business and Social Sciences focussing on women in business, personal finance, and entrepreneurship.

The founder and CEO of Starling Bank has joined Aston University as a Visiting Professor within the College of Business and Social Sciences.

Anne Boden will work closely with Aston University’s Head of the Department of Accounting, Professor Andy Lymer, to develop connections between Aston Business School and the banking industry over the next three years.

In her first 12 months, Anne and her team will engage with students about women in business and take part in structured talks with networking opportunities that will appeal across a wide range of business students as well as other disciplines within the University such as engineering.

The potential to support Aston University student placements opportunities and mentoring for students will also feature as part of this engagement.

Professor Boden will also work with colleagues at Aston Business School to expand research connections in common areas of interest associated with personal finance, banking and money management.

She will also speak at a public lecture around what it takes to start a bank and be an entrepreneur.

Professor Boden said:

“I am excited to join Aston University as a visiting professor.

“I am looking forward to passing on some of the knowledge and connections I have built over the last 40 years in the financial world.

“I want to evolve the work being done at Starling’s ‘Make Money Equal’ initiative, which campaigns for equality of gender representation in the media.

Professor Andy Lymer, head of accounting at Aston Business School, said:

“I am really looking forward to working with Anne.

“This well-deserved appointment recognises the distinguished contribution that she has made and continues to make to the banking community. We are privileged to have a business leader of Anne's stature join our faculty.

“As a university that values highly practical experience, I am looking forward to working with her to create projects that are different and not of the usual ilk.”
