Aston University has won a Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) Global Excellence Award at the CIMA Excellence Awards virtual ceremony on 10 December 2021.

The annual CIMA Excellence Awards recognise institutions and individuals across the world going above and beyond to shape the next generation of Chartered Global Management Accountants and lead the accounting profession into the future.

Aston University’s Global Gold award recognises university partners that have achieved CIMA pass rates above the global average over a 12 month period.

At the same awards, Richard Kenyon - one of Aston University’s management accounting teaching team - also won a personal award. He took the Regional CIMA Teaching Excellence award for the UK for 2021, being recognised as the best management accounting teacher in the country for this year.

Professor Andy Lymer, head of accounting at Aston Business School, said:

“This is such good news for the Accounting Department at Aston University at the end of a long year for all of us.

“We take our relationship with CIMA very seriously and this is great recognition that we are doing our job well in preparing our students to perform excellently at the next stage of their professional development.

“I would also like to congratulate Richard Kenyon on his personal award being recognised as the best management accounting teacher in the country for this year.

“In Richard’s case this for his work in teaching strategic management accounting on our final year undergraduate course, at Masters level and in particular in his leadership of our MSc in Accounting with Jaguar Land Rover that enables experienced accountants get a Masters degree with us as part of their continuing professional development even beyond their professional qualifications.

“Not only do we have a great team, which has made this possible, but have members in it like Richard who are individually recognised for their teaching leadership.”

Andrew Harding, FCMA, CGMA, chief executive – management accounting at The Chartered Institute of Management Accounting, commented:

“It is an honour to recognise and celebrate those who have demonstrated remarkable commitment to their students and the accounting profession in the past year.

“All our winners and nominees are doing incredible work to help future generations realise their potential and give their career a head start. We are proud to call you our partners and truly appreciate your support.”
