Aston launches new Executive MBA

Aston Business School is launching its new Executive Part-time MBA at an exclusive open evening on Tuesday 8 March.  

The Aston Executive Part-time MBA offers the flexibility to learn over a longer period of time than the full-time time programme. It is specifically designed for people who want to study without giving up their full-time career, through a blend of online learning and weekend study days.

As well as teaching the fundamentals of business, the Executive Part-time MBA includes a personal and professional development programme based on the latest thinking in behavioural science.

The programme, known as the “Aston Edge”, consists of a mix of workshops, team challenges, reflective learning, networking, speaker events and other activities to develop your skills portfolio and become a better performer.

This approach is based on the work of the Aston Behavioural Science Laboratory, a unique initiative among European business schools.

The laboratory is led by Professor Richard Crisp, an international authority on social psychology and winner of the British Psychological Society Presidents’ Award for Distinguished Contributions to Psychological Knowledge 2014.

Professor Crisp is Associate Dean for Research and Enterprise at Aston Business School. He specialises in the psychology of social influence and behaviour change, and his current projects include developing science-based solutions to business problems.

His research has provided ground-breaking insights into how society shapes our behaviour, beliefs, attitudes, and values.

He said:

“In 2015 we set up the Aston Behavioural Science Laboratory to leverage insights from behavioural science faster than has traditionally been achieved. By shortening the distance between basic science and application, we can help foster better leadership practice, inspire confidence and improve performance.

“Our cognitive training techniques free the mind to innovate, to see new possibilities, to adapt and grow. They weaken the psychological power of stereotypes, mitigating the impact they have on confidence, self-efficacy and the ability to achieve success. They help people appreciate their dazzling mixture of possible selves, and see this same potential in others.”

Richard Crisp will be giving a short talk at the open evening on 8 March about the business case for diversity and how diversity experiences can even ‘warm up’ the creative mind, directly leading to better problem-solving and other cognitive improvements.

The open evening will include a drinks reception and the opportunity to network with members of the MBA team, alumni and other professionals considering the Executive Part-time MBA. It is free to attend but places must be booked in advance. Book now to reserve your place.
