Breaking barriers with Aston

Alex's ambition is to work in counter fraud operations so studying data science at Aston is a key part of his career plan.

"I always wanted to be a Data Scientist, and I plan to use my degree to get further experience in counter fraud operations. Pursuing a career in data science can feel daunting, particularly as I came from a background studying Biology. But my lecturers have been so supportive that it's really helped me understand my long-term goals. The course leaders here are extremely accommodating and are willing to go the extra mile for me.

Studying at Aston has really improved my confidence. No matter your ethnic or cultural background, you’re part of a diverse, inclusive community where you can share experiences and learn from others."

A vibrant future in Birmingham

Alex now lives in central Birmingham, close to the University and is very at home in his adopted home city.

"By studying at Aston, I know I’m gaining a degree that’s not only in high demand but also designed to prepare me for a competitive job market. Birmingham is vibrant and full of opportunities, from exploring Digbeth to discovering new places that pop up all the time, so there’s always something exciting to do. It’s the perfect place to live, study, and grow."
