Overcoming challenges at Aston

Since I was little, I always dreamed of a career where I could help people, which led me to study BSc Psychology and Sociology at Aston University. I chose Aston because of its commitment to supporting students’ career goals. The dedicated Careers and Placement team offers one-on-one guidance that sets Aston apart, giving me a competitive edge.

Coming through Clearing was a challenging experience. I was worried when I first called Aston, but the staff guided me step by step, making the process smooth and reassuring.

My placement year as a Project Support Officer at Waldour and Armstrong was a pivotal moment in my journey. It allowed me to gain real-world experience, applying my academic knowledge in a professional setting and building skills for my future career.

Aston gave me so many opportunities to grow and connect with others. I was the women’s captain of the Aston University badminton team and later became president of both the badminton club and the Hong Kong Public Affairs and Social Service Society. These roles taught me leadership, teamwork, and how to build a supportive community.

Birmingham as a city

Living in Birmingham has been a fantastic experience. As a foodie, I love exploring the city’s diverse restaurant scene, and I enjoy how Birmingham brings together people from all cultures to celebrate events like Lunar New Year, Pride, and International Mother Language Day. On campus, my favourite spot is the Students’ Union, where I can study and socialise with friends.

Aston University has helped me grow into a confident, capable person, and I’m excited to continue making a difference in people’s lives.
