Module overview

Studied via distance learning, this standalone module provides a comprehensive exploration of tinnitus management, focusing on the development and delivery of rehabilitative services for individuals with tinnitus and related conditions such as hyperacusis.

The indicative content of the module includes an introduction to the mechanisms of tinnitus, current approaches to managing tinnitus and hyperacusis, and the assessment and evaluation of these conditions. It also covers the principles of delivering patient-centered services, emphasising shared decision-making and explores sound enrichment strategies in the management of tinnitus and hyperacusis.

This is a level 7 module (equivalent level of study to a postgraduate or masters degree) worth 15 credits.

Objectives and outcomes

  1. Enables you to recognise the essential components for developing and delivering rehabilitative services for individuals with tinnitus and related conditions like hyperacusis.
  2. Provides you with a systematic understanding and critical awareness needed to manage patients with tinnitus and hyperacusis.

On successful completion of this module you will be able to:

  • Demonstrate critical awareness of the clinical applicability of current tinnitus research in managing tinnitus patients/clients.
  • Demonstrate independence in researching, planning and writing assignments.
  • Demonstrate recognition of the elements required in the delivery of patient/client-centred service.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely using advanced concept and terminology.

The United Kingdom government has confirmed that European Union (EU), other European Economic Area (EEA) and Swiss nationals commencing academic courses in England from August 2021 will no longer be charged the same tuition rates as UK students.

Tuition fees for students are reviewed annually and may increase in subsequent years in line with inflation linked to the Retail Price Index (RPI) to take account of the University’s increased costs of delivering the Programme. Any such increase shall always be in accordance with the law. When undertaking a placement year, a placement year fee applies.

  • This course is delivered via distance learning. You will access learning materials for general study, revision and assessment via our virtual learning environment, Blackboard. This platform allows you to access a comprehensive range of study materials, scientific journals, e-journals, databases and much more.

  • Assessment
    Assessment is by coursework submitted throughout the course. Coursework will take the form of four short essays (700 words each) and a final 2,000-word essay.
