Studied via blended learning (online and in-person sessions), this standalone module provides a comprehensive overview of clinical immunology and immunopathology, focusing on immune dysfunctions and immunological testing. Ideal for topping up your degree to become a registered Biomedical Scientist or advancing your professional development, it enhances your understanding of the immune system’s role in health and disease.
The module covers the fundamentals of immune recognition; acute and chronic inflammation, including their impact on protection, aging and disease; and cell communication in immune responses and repair. You will also explore modern immuno-techniques used in diagnosis, research and treatment, with a focus on self and non-self recognition, autoimmune diseases and immune deficiency conditions.
This is a level 6 module (equivalent level of study to a bachelors degree) worth 10 credits.
