What you will learn

You will gain in-depth knowledge and understanding of the theoretical and applied perspectives of engineering management and leadership. You will also have the opportunity to develop your areas of interest through a range of specialist modules and completion of a major project.

You will undertake real-life projects throughout your course with modules taught using industry-related case studies and current research in the field. We are uniquely positioned, in the heart of UK engineering and manufacturing, to be able to welcome guest speakers from leading companies to share their experiences with you. Field trips to regional businesses will give you a real insight into industry.

Accreditation 

Successful completion of this programme leads to the automatic award of the CMI certificate. CMI qualifications are not only proven to improve performance but they are also designed to provide a clear pathway for progression towards the ultimate Management and Leadership achievement, Chartered Manager. Entry requirements 

• A 2:2 or higher UK Honours Degree or overseas equivalent, with some quantitative content (e.g. engineering or science) or evidence of quantitative ability i.e. A Level Mathematics. Two years experience in an appropriate engineering post is an advantage.

As well as:

• Two professional references – at least one must be from an academic referee
•  A completed application form.

International Students

• An official academic transcript, with an official English translation, of your university grades to date
• Applicants whose first language is not English will be required to provide evidence of an English language qualification. Find out more about our English language requirements

Extensive work experience

We recognise the value of extensive professional experience. If you do not have the academic qualifications but have extensive and relevant professional experience and a proven ability to succeed, we would welcome your application.

The information contained on this website details the typical entry requirements for this course for the most commonly offered qualifications. Applicants with alternative qualifications may wish to enquire with the relevant admissions teams prior to application whether or not their qualifications are deemed acceptable. For less commonly encountered qualifications this will be judged on a case-by-case basis in consultation with the academic admissions tutor. 

Learning will be through a combination of lectures and practical projects.

You’ll be assessed by exam and assignments with your major project accounting for a third of the total credits required to complete the course successfully.

Tuition fees are reviewed annually and may increase in subsequent years in line with inflation linked to the Retail Price Index (RPI) to take account of the University’s increased costs of delivering the Programme. When undertaking a placement year a placement year fee applies.

Why study Engineering Management at Aston?

What will I be doing on the Engineering Management course at Aston? 

You’ll be covering the key elements that underpin strategic management. This will include the management of financial, physical and human resources, project management and agile manufacturing. You’ll then put this learning into practice through the final project, which will take the final six months of the course.
