Module overview

Studied via distance learning, this standalone module provides a comprehensive understanding of electroencephalography (EEG) in clinical practice. It focuses on the role of EEG in managing unconscious, critically ill patients and children with epileptic disorders, as well as the theory behind sleep physiology and its disorders.

The module covers the pathophysiology and management of patients with encephalopathy or coma, the use of continuous EEG monitoring in intensive care, and clinical neurophysiology assessments. It also addresses paediatric epilepsies, video telemetry and ambulatory EEG, and the neurobiology of sleep and sleep disorders. Students will gain practical insights into assessing and managing sleep disorders and epilepsy in both adult and paediatric settings.

This is a level 7 module (equivalent level of study to a postgraduate or masters degree) worth 15 credits.
