Studied via distance learning, this standalone module provides a thorough exploration of adult rehabilitation within audiology, emphasising auditory science, assessment and rehabilitation techniques. Ideal for enhancing your clinical practice or advancing your professional expertise, it deepens your understanding of evidence-based approaches to managing hearing loss.

The indicative content of the module includes acoustics and psychoacoustics, the function and disorders of the auditory system, audiological assessment methods and strategies for managing adult hearing disorders.

This is a level 7 module (equivalent level of study to a postgraduate or masters degree) worth 15 credits.

Objectives and outcomes

  • Apply your knowledge of auditory conditions, diagnostic tests and management options to specific situations.

The United Kingdom government has confirmed that European Union (EU), other European Economic Area (EEA) and Swiss nationals commencing academic courses in England from August 2021 will no longer be charged the same tuition rates as UK students.

Tuition fees for students are reviewed annually and may increase in subsequent years in line with inflation linked to the Retail Price Index (RPI) to take account of the University’s increased costs of delivering the Programme. Any such increase shall always be in accordance with the law. When undertaking a placement year, a placement year fee applies.

Delivery and assessment

  • This course is delivered via distance learning. You will access learning materials for general study, revision and assessment via our virtual learning environment, Blackboard. This platform allows you to access a comprehensive range of study materials, scientific journals, e-journals, databases and much more.

  • Assessment

    For this module, your assessment comprises two components:

    Continuous assessment (10%): You will complete an online test lasting 30 minutes.

    Case study (90%): You will write a 2000-word case study assignment. After submitting a formative case study, you will receive individual written feedback within four weeks. Final summative marks will be released within four weeks of submission.

    Both assessments are designed to evaluate your knowledge and ability to critically appraise information, argue logically, implement evidence-based management of auditory conditions and communicate effectively. The formative case study allows you to receive feedback on a fully completed piece of work, providing guidance on how to meet the assignment outcomes.
