What is a personal trainer?

A personal trainer, also commonly known as a PT, is a certified individual who has the knowledge, skills, and abilities to design and instruct safe and effective exercise programmes, and deliver one-to-one training.

Personal trainers hold varying degrees of knowledge in fitness and health but the prerequisite to become a qualified personal trainer is to hold a level 3 certificate in personal training.

Personal trainers help clients to achieve their health and fitness goals, such as weight loss, fat loss and improved sports performance by prescribing and delivering bespoke training programmes tailored to the individual’s goals.

If you're a gym newcomer, personal training sessions are a great way to learn exercises, techniques and reach your fitness goal.

How much does a personal trainer cost?

The cost for a personal training session is £25 per hour. This cost is separate to your membership and you would pay your PT directly.

If you wish to book a PT session, please call 0121 204 4623 or visit reception.

Benefits of personal training
  • Teach you the correct form - this avoids risk of injury, recruits the targeted muscles properly, and maximises your progress, with or without your trainer.
  • Provide you with a wealth of knowledge - if you're new to the gym or getting back into it, personal trainers can prescribe individualised exercises. They will also be able to help you address lifestyle changes you can make to optimise your health.
  • Push your limits - sometimes motivation is what's stopping you. Personal trainers are a great way to push you to your full potential.
  • Provide a bespoke training plan - Not only will you benefit from the PT session, personal trainers will provide you with a regime for the days you workout alone, keeping you on track.
What to expect at your first session
  • Fitness test - Your personal trainer may ask you to perform some assessment exercises, this is so they can evaluate your fitness and keep track of your progress. Don't worry about  you performance in these, just do your best.
  • What to wear - We ask all PT clients to wear the correct gym attire and footwear (breathable, lightweight clothing and non-slip supportive trainers). Ensure you bring a towel and water with you, it's important you stay hydrated throughout the session.
  • How long does a PT session last? - A personal training session usually lasts between 45 minutes and 1 hour.
