College of Health and Life Sciences Research
We conduct internationally recognised research with exploitable outputs that change lives.
We specialise in four key multidisciplinary themes of cellular and molecular biomedicine, health and disease across the lifespan, clinical and systems neuroscience, and vision, cognition, and language.
We are home to one of Aston’s four research institutes, three centres of excellence, and seven research groups. Our research groups link directly with our five schools of study; the School of Biosciences, Aston Medical School, School of Optometry, Aston Pharmacy School, and School of Psychology, ensuring our research is fed directly into teaching, providing our students with access to the latest findings, trends, and thinking in the field.
Our work has been internationally recognised:
Improving quality of health and lifestyle for older members of our society
Pioneering research to understand the molecular basis of how cells communicate with their environment and each other
Advancing our understanding of the development, use, preservation and restoration of ocular function
Applying basic biomedical, neuroscience and behavioural research to clinical and other populations
Exploiting increasingly sophisticated investigative techniques to study human cognition
Focused upon the effectiveness of drug therapies from dosage form design to patient application
Researching the brain and nervous system, understanding and developing treatments for a range of neurological conditions
