Research Scientist MRes Degree Apprenticeship

We are pleased to be expanding our degree apprenticeship portfolio with the introduction of a new MRes Research Scientist Degree Apprenticeship.

This Level 7 degree apprenticeship spans across three years and is aimed at those already working in bioscience or biomedical laboratories in research or technical roles who want to develop their skills and knowledge into bioscience research challenges.

Studying alongside their day job, apprentices will be able to apply their learning directly back into their work and see the benefits of their studies right from the start.

This programme also allows apprentices to develop their commercial and leadership skills, with a whole module on business for bioscience. This is a unique offering by Aston University and will give apprentices greater industry knowledge and awareness in order to advance their careers.

Ivan Wall, Professor of Regenerative Medicine, Cell & Gene Therapy Bioprocessing, is the Programme Director for this new degree apprenticeship:

“The programme will give apprentices a strong foundation on which to build successful careers as research scientists. They will acquire skills, knowledge and competencies that equip them for planning, executing and reporting laboratory research. In addition, our Business for Biosciences module will ensure they can apply entrepreneur skills to maximise the impact of their research in the workplace.”

We plan to welcome our first cohort of apprentices onto the programme in September 2021. For further information on the programme, or to enquire about how to start the application process you can contact our Apprenticeships Team at apprenticeships@aston.ac.uk
