Library News

We have upgraded our Library Management system (LMS). This software allows us to keep track of our print materials, which ones are on the shelves and on loan. We use it to keep track of library user accounts where you will find information about what you’ve got on loan and where you would renew. We also use it to purchase new resources and create records so they can be found and made available on our discovery system and through reading lists.

This new system will provide:  

• improved usability with mobile devices
• access to the full collection (digital and print) including all databases via one system
• enhanced search capabilities
• improved analytics to ensure staff and students have access to the resources they need

Key changes

• We have introduced Library Search, replacing SmartSearch
• You will be able to to log into your library account from within Library Search
• You will need to use multi-factor authentication to log in, check full details on the multi-factor authentication page
• All current students and staff can borrow up to 35 books
• We have introduced automatic renewals, for full details check our information about borrowing books

Work has begun on a new entrance for the Library to improve access to the building.  

We are about to enter the most disruptive part of the project.  There will be severe noise disruption 21 - 28 August with prolonged drilling throughout the day which is likely to affect the whole building. 

While you will still be able to access the library building we recommend you use alternative study spaces in the main building such as the study space on the ground floor and MB 563.
