Dr Gary Coombe

The CEO of Procter & Gamble’s (P&G) global grooming business has been awarded an honorary degree by Aston University.

Dr Gary Coombe was awarded the honour at a ceremony held at the Eastside Rooms, the city’s latest purpose-built conference and events venue.

Since joining P&G as a sales representative in the UK, Dr Coombe has been at the heart of the consumer goods industry, working on some of P&G’s most successful brands across regional and global leadership roles including Gillette, Venus, Braun, Joy and The Art of Shaving, serving 800 million consumers around the world with annual revenues of over $6bn.

Gary is a champion for diversity and inclusion and a leading voice on men’s role in gender equality and was recognised in 2018 in Management Today’s Agents of Change Power List.

He has been the driving force behind Gillette and Venus using their global advertising reach for pioneering campaigns on social responsibility and gender equality.

Professor George Feiger, executive dean of the College of Business and Social Sciences at Aston University, said:

“I am delighted that Aston University has bestowed this honour on Dr Coombe in recognition of his business achievements and work to promote diversity, inclusion and social responsibility

“His success since graduating from Aston University in 1986 is something our students can be inspired by.

“He is a great asset to the University and returns regularly to speak with business students and faculty, sharing his experiences from a 35-year career in a Fortune 500 company.”
