Aston University has opened a new Student Solutions Centre designed to transform the way services important to students are delivered. The centre brings together a comprehensive range of support in one approachable and welcoming environment, including careers, mental health and wellbeing services, finance, visas and more.

The vibrant space has been thoughtfully designed to make it an inclusive space. There are no screens, hatches, or counters as are typical at many universities. Aston University has instead created a place where students can walk right up to the support team and start a conversation around the subject that matters to them. Private rooms with a comfortable feel have also been built for those who wish to have confidential conversations.

During the development, the University worked closely with the Students’ Union to ensure students’ needs were at the heart of the design and students chose the centre’s name.

Professor Aleks Subic, Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive of Aston University, said:

"Our vision for an inclusive, supportive environment with our students placed at the heart of all we do has been realised with the establishment of our new Student Solutions Centre.

"Change isn’t easy, but the delivery of our vision has been accomplished through the hard work of many contributors involving a partnership approach between our staff and students.

"The Manifesto I co-signed with our President of the Aston Students’ Union during the launch of the centre symbolises our strong partnership and the commitment we have made together to creating the best experience for all our students."

Clare Gough, Chief Student Officer, Aston University, said:

“It has been wonderful to celebrate the official opening with our community.

"The Student Solution Centre’s purpose was being demonstrated all around us. Throughout the opening event, our team helped students who dropped in to get support and many then stayed on to celebrate the launch.

"The space was buzzing with positivity and innovative ideas."

About Aston University

For over a century, Aston University’s enduring purpose has been to make our world a better place through education, research and innovation, by enabling our students to succeed in work and life, and by supporting our communities to thrive economically, socially and culturally.

Aston University’s history has been intertwined with the history of Birmingham, a remarkable city that once was the heartland of the Industrial Revolution and the manufacturing powerhouse of the world.

Born out of the First Industrial Revolution, Aston University has a proud and distinct heritage dating back to our formation as the School of Metallurgy in 1875, the first UK College of Technology in 1951, gaining university status by Royal Charter in 1966, and becoming The Guardian University of the Year in 2020.

Building on our outstanding past, we are now defining our place and role in the Fourth Industrial Revolution (and beyond) within a rapidly changing world.
