Study in Birmingham – the UK’s second largest city

Aston University’s campus is based in the cosmopolitan city centre of Birmingham. It’s just a 10-minute walk to reach all the facilities you would expect in a modern city such as excellent transport links, world-class shopping centres and entertainment venues. As the UK’s second largest city, Birmingham is culturally diverse and rich in history.

Being at the centre of the UK means travelling to and from Birmingham is easy. Our international airport serves over 100 direct routes and we have three major train stations. If you want to explore the rest of the UK and Europe, Birmingham is a convenient base to do this from. You can travel to London in less than 90 minutes.

Birmingham is a major hub for business and industry, attracting companies such as Amazon, ASOS, Balfour Beatty, BBC, Deutsche Bank, KPMG, Mott Macdonald and PwC. Major multinationals have made Birmingham their home too - HSBC moved their company headquarters to Birmingham in 2019 and Goldman Sachs opened a new location in Birmingham in 2021.

Birmingham is home to long-established companies such as Cadbury, Jaguar Land Rover, Lloyds Bank and Rolls Royce, as well as newer, thriving companies like Gymshark, all of which have their headquarters in Birmingham.

Whatever your career goals, Birmingham’s job market offers a range of opportunities for students and recent graduates.
