Scholarships and Funding

The United Kingdom government has confirmed that European Union (EU), other European Economic Area (EEA) and Swiss nationals commencing academic courses in England from August 2021 will no longer be charged the same tuition rates as home students. Further information can be found on the GOV.UK website.

Brexit Updates

The UK has left the European Union and the transition period has ended on 31 December 2020. This means that there may be changes to your student journey at Aston and we highlighted some of the key ones below.

The UK has a world-leading education sector and will continue to welcome talented and high-potential international students. There will be no limit on the number of international students who can come to the UK to study, and we will seek to increase the number of international students in higher education as set out in the International Education Strategy published in March 2019.

Studying in the UK

Tuition fees
If you are starting your studies at Aston University from September 2021 onward, please note that EU, EEA and Swiss nationals will no longer be charged the same tuition rates as Home (UK) students.

There are several scenarios in which you may still be eligible for Home (UK) fees and you can follow the official UKCISA page to see if these apply to you. Our International Student Advice team is here to help so if you think you are eligible to the Home (UK) fees, let them know of your individual situation.

Visa
International students, including EU, EEA and Swiss citizens, can now apply for their visa to study in the UK, through the new and improved Student route which forms part of the UK's points-based immigration system.

All students applying to the new Student route through the points-based immigration system will need to demonstrate they meet the required 70 points. They will achieve the required points if they can demonstrate that they have an offer from an approved educational institution and have been issued a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) by their sponsor before making an application to the Student route, speak English, and are able to support themselves during their studies in the UK. Working in the UK
The UK is also making it easier for the best international graduates to secure skilled jobs with our new Graduate route, which will allow international students who have completed undergraduate and master’s degrees in the UK to stay for 2 years and those who have completed a PhD to stay for 3 years.

Albania

English Language Requirements

Students with an Albanian qualification will need to show proof of English. All acceptable English tests and the respective scores you need to obtain, you can find by visiting our webpage.

Undergraduate Programmes

If you hold the Albanian Diplomë e Maturës Shtetërore, to progress to a Bachelors degree, you will be required to complete a recognised International Foundation Programme or an International Year One. Benefits of a pathway programme at ONCAMPUS Aston include the chance to:

"I loved the fact that I could tailor my degree and pick the subjects I wanted to study. The placement year was certainly very important. Every year there are several careers fairs on campus, and that helped me understand what employers were looking for during interviews and assessment centres. It is worth noting the information you gather sometimes could be only generic and it is up to you to show them your skills throughout the application process. In my second year, when I was looking for a placement, I was lucky enough to have met a great mentor in the careers and placement team. He helped me tailor my CV and cover letter, and at each step of the hiring process I was passing, he was giving me great advice!
I did my 15 month placement year at Johnson & Johnson in the finance department. It was a great way to learn how working in industry looks like. It helped me not only gaining skills that are essential for the future, but also professional behaviour which is a significant part when you are sat down in an interview and the other candidate is coming from top ranked universities. Not all universities offer the experience of taking a placement year. Having done that gives you a huge advantage over other candidates when looking for a graduate role."

Latvia: "Aston has great connections and even as part of our modules we had companies present to us and we were able to work on case studies with real companies and solve real problems. Even before the pandemic happened Aston was working with ‘Virtual Internships’ and sponsoring places for students to go on a virtual internship.
I was able to do one myself as a part of the "Aston Global Advantage" programme. I did an internship for 6 weeks and it was an amazing experience. Our host company was really great at organising tasks and missions for each week. Not only was I able to experience working in a virtual team but I was also able to lead that team twice during my time there.

"Aston University has good relationships with many employers in different sectors. In in my first year at the university I had a marketing module and as part of the assessment students had to work in groups and develop a new product idea for Müller (popular dairy products brand). On the board of the examiners were employees of the company and we got a direct feedback from them. That was an unforgettable experience, not expected of my first year.
I felt inspired by many of the hosts that attended different events at the university. Many of the invited scientists and entrepreneurs were alumni of Aston University.
As part of my degree I completed a placement year at Network Rail. I was working in the Finance team in South West.
