Optometry staff

Our team come from a wide variety of backgrounds and include optometrists, ophthalmologists, dispensing opticians, and vision scientists.


Many of our staff are clinically active, delivering services within the NHS and Aston Eye Clinic, as well as providing high quality optometry educational guidance and support to students ranging from undergraduates, to optometry and ophthalmic professionals. Research outputs from the team have been internationally recognised within the field for their significance in technological advances, and the detection, diagnosis, treatment of vision disorders.  

Professor Leon Davies

Head of School of Optometry: Professor Leon Davies

Leon is a Professor of Optometry and Physiological Optics, a registered optometrist with the General Optical Council (GOC), a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Spectacle Makers, a Fellow of the College of Optometrists (FCOptom) and the American Academy of Optometry (FAAO), and a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA). His main research interests are within the areas of presbyopia, ocular accommodation, intraocular lens (IOL) technology, ocular biometry, ophthalmic instrumentation, and myopia.
