Why Aston University and Neurosensory Sciences?

The training course I wished to do, the Scientist Training Programme, comprised of an academic part and a clinical part. Aston University had a part-time MSc course that ran over three years and was specially created for this course. This complimented the clinical aspect, I therefore opted to go to Aston University.

What did you enjoy most about the course?

There were many aspects of my course that I enjoyed. However one in particular was the opportunity to interact and work along side individuals from different specialisms. It gave me a great insight into how different teams can work together to obtain the best outcome whether it is to do with patient care or trying to complete a task to a high standard.

What would you say to any student thinking of studying your course at Aston University?

I would say go for it! Aston University does not only have a high standard of teaching, the support from the lecturers are invaluable!

Career advice for students

Keep an open mind, the training you obtain can open a variety of doors in your career, at times it can lead you to places you would least expect.

What is your current role and what do? What do you enjoy most about your role?

I currently work as a Clinical Scientist at the Electrodiagnostics department based at the Leicester Royal Infirmary. I specialise in both audiology and ophthalmology where I perform a wide range of comprehensive tests.  I am part of the NHS Newborn Hearing Screening Program which is a routine health check, testing the hearing of all newborn babies in Leicestershire.

I also provide vision-related electrodiagnostic tests for patients from Ophthalmology and Eye Casualty. I really enjoy my role and I get great satisfaction that I am able to assist in differential diagnosis, ensuring that patients get the best care promptly.
