Cristina, a Psychology and Sociology Graduate discusses her journey at Aston University
Cristina is a graduate of the Psychology and Sociology BSc programme at Aston University. She discussed the supportive atmosphere, her placement experience, and provides some key career advice.
Why Aston University and Psychology and Sociology?
I fell in love with Aston the moment I stepped foot there back in 2013! I loved the supportive atmosphere and staff, which was my experience when I started my course.
I couldn’t make up my mind between Psychology and Sociology, so I was happy when I saw that Aston offered the joint degree!
What did you enjoy most about the course?
The relationship I built with lecturers! I used to book appointments to ask further questions on how to improve my essay writing and how to best prepare for exams and this helped a lot.
My lecturers have been available and ready to help!
Did you join any clubs or societies?
I did volleyball during my first year and Dance during my second year.
Placement
I did my placement with Cohesion which is a recruitment company. This was great exposure to the real world and helped boost my independence.
My role was “onboarding coordinator” which was all to do with welcoming people on board for the job they interviewed for and completing all their checks such as references and DBS.
What would you say to any student thinking of studying your course at Aston University?
Come and study here! You will not be disappointed. Staff are supportive, it is a great atmosphere to study and the campus has students from different walks of life, cultures and ethnicities.
Aston is a great place where you can learn and begin your journey towards the career of your dreams. The career department is readily available and really has helped me a lot in my days at uni and I trust they will do the same and even more for you!
If you could give one piece of career advice to your fellow Aston University alumni, what would it be?
Sometimes we feel like we need to know everything about what we want to do in the next few years career wise.
Sometimes you may not know, and that is okay. Be patient with yourself, don’t compare yourself and be willing to learn from others!
