Part of the Society matters LIVE event series
Swearing is a common part of day-to-day conversation for many people. But why do we swear and how have our favourite swear words changed over time? Following his sold out talk as part of the 2022 Pint of Science Festival, join Dr Robbie Love as he returns to Café Artum to explore the science of swearing, from what happens in the brain when we swear to tracking how often we swear with the help of corpus linguistics.
Come prepared to share your favourite swear words and enjoy an entertaining journey into the science of swearing.
Dr Robbie Love is Lecturer in English Language at the School of Social Sciences and Humanities, Aston University. He is the host of CorpusCast, the podcast about corpus linguistics and what it can do for society.
