Online public lecture by Tony Clark, Professor of Software Engineering and Deputy Dean in the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences at Aston University.
Many large-scale software projects are costly failures because they over-run or do not work properly when they are deployed. This is partly because modern applications must be deployed into very complex software ecosystems.
In order to address this problem, new software must adapt to work effectively with its environment. The challenge is to find approaches that will allow systems to be built in order to dynamically change their behaviour.
During this talk, Professor Clark will motivate the challenge, describe some approaches that can be used to address it, including the use of Digital Twins, and give some examples of how techniques such as Machine Learning can be used to solve the problem.
Tony is a Professor of Software Engineering and Deputy Dean in the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences. After completing a BSc in Computer Science, Tony worked for Marconi Research for 9 years before becoming an academic at Bradford University and then King's College London. He co-founded a company and served as Technical Director for 5 years before returning to academia as Head of Department of Computer Science at Middlesex University.
