The Learning Development Centre (LDC) aims to help all Aston students achieve their full potential and acquire the academic and transferable skills that underpin their chosen course.

With a focus on maths, academic writing, study skills, and collaborative learning, we offer a welcoming and accessible environment where students can enhance their knowledge and skills at any stage of their studies. Students are actively involved in the LDC team, working as academic writing mentors and developing learning resources to share their study experience in Higher Education. For students unable to get on campus, our teaching team offers help and advice through our LDC BlackBoard module, email tutorials, and web conferencing.

The maths drop-in service supports students from all Academic Schools, particularly those in transition to higher education. We can also provide maths workshops and targeted support on request.

Working with academic staff, we seek ways to integrate academic skills within the curriculum. We can provide discipline-specific sessions and resources on referencing and understanding plagiarism, academic writing, assessment and feedback, oral and poster presentation skills, and group work. Additionally, we can work with subject teams to embed learning development within programmes, directly relating our teaching with the learning and assessments taking place at each level of study.

You can find us on the first floor of the Aston University Library building.
