Clearing can be a stressful time but our expert Admissions team have put together the following FAQs to help with all the essentials.
UCAS Clearing is the period during summer when universities advertise remaining places on undergraduate courses.
You can apply for a Clearing place if you want to study at university, but are not holding a place and/or have not met the conditions of your offers.
You can contact universities to try and secure a Clearing offer. You need all your exam results before you can enter Clearing.
You can use Clearing if you:
You are automatically entered into Clearing if you apply late for your course (after 30 June).
If you’ve been accepted at another university but want to come to Aston University, you can call our Clearing team on 0800 9175923 to discuss your options.
If you applied for a course at Aston University and were unsuccessful, but you now meet the entry requirements for your chosen course, you can also apply through Clearing.
Clearing opens on 5 July 2024 for those applicants who have all their results.
If you are waiting for your results, you can apply once you have them on Thursday 15 August 2024.
All the courses in Clearing are listed on our website from 5 July 2024.
Please note: We will not be able to consider any applications by email.
Check your UCAS account to see if your status says 'you are in Clearing' or 'Clearing has started'.
Find out how to apply through Clearing if you don’t have a UCAS account.
Browse our Clearing places to see which courses are available.
You should check you meet the entry requirements for the course you’re interested in. Our entry requirements will be displayed from Wednesday 14th August 2024.
When you have found a course you want to apply for and checked you meet our entry requirements, call our Clearing team on 0800 9175923 to see if we can make you an offer.
Make sure you have your UCAS Personal ID when you contact us.
You must contact us yourself. We can't discuss your application with other people, including parents and relatives.
We normally tell you on the phone, or after you've applied online, if we can make you an offer.
After you have contacted us and we have made you an offer, you will get an email from us telling you what to do next.
This will normally involve logging into UCAS Hub and clicking 'add clearing choice' by a deadline, which we'll give you in your offer. Once you have your offer, you can refer yourself to the University.
If you already hold an offer to study with us you cannot apply for a different course in Clearing. Instead you will need to request a course change. We will consider requests for course changes on a case by case basis.
If a course is listed on our website as closed for Clearing we will not normally be able to consider a request to change course.
Please email ugadmissions@aston.ac.uk, with your UCAS / Student number and tell them the course you want to change to. The admissions team will then consider your request and respond to you directly.
On receipt of the Aston Clearing offer email, please log into your UCAS Hub to add Aston as your Clearing choice.
Aston’s institution code is A80 and you will find the UCAS course code on the relevant course page.
We are sorry to hear that you no longer wish to attend Aston.
If you hold an unconditional firm offer (UF) with Aston and wish to release yourself from this, you can use the ‘decline your place’ button on UCAS Hub. You can find more information on the UCAS website here.
Please note, you should only use this button if you are sure you no longer want to study at Aston.
If you have specific questions about your offer you can email ugadmissions@aston.ac.uk. Please note there may be a delay in response time during this busy period. Your question may be answered in these FAQs.
Alternatively you can call the Offer Holder and General Advice team on 0800 9175923 and select option 1.
