Accessing Careers Support
We’re continuing to support Aston students and graduates with all of their careers and placement needs during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Here in Careers and Placements, we're committed to giving you the advice, tools and guidance you need to help you plan your career.
Some of our events, activities and appointments are being delivered online, others are being delivered face-to-face. Our Careers and Placements Centre on campus is open 10:00 am – 3:00 pm, Monday – Friday.
Find out all the ways you can access our support below:
Get familiar with Aston Futures, our online portal where you can search for careers events, view and apply for jobs and book appointments with members of the team.
It's really easy to use. Just log in with your usual student login details, answer a few questions to set up your profile, and away you go.
We have a jam-packed programme of events covering a range of topics to help you prepare for your future. Some of our events will be delivered online, some in-person on campus.
Additionally, some of our online sessions are led by companies, while others are run by our very own Careers and Placements team.
Search all the events and book your place via Aston Futures.
If you're currently exploring ways to gain work experience, land a placement or secure a graduate role, it's important to be as prepared as possible for the process ahead. To help you get there, our resource library is packed with information on everything from drafting your first CV to nailing an assessment centre.
We also subscribe to a range of online tools that'll help you prepare for a psychometric test or video interview – practice makes perfect, after all! In addition, we’ve collated some useful online resources around working from home.
You can book a virtual or face-to-face appointment with a member of the team using Aston Futures.
The employers we work with are doing more and more video interviews – for obvious reasons. Video interviews can be awkward and scary, but it doesn't have to be that way. The more you practise, the more comfortable you become. We've got a host of online tools to help you get prepped.
Like hearing what other students are up to? Looking for some placement inspiration? Want to know what it’s actually like being in a graduate job? Our blog has posts from students, graduates, employers and careers staff who could support you in various ways.
If you have concerns, please contact our on-placement support team by emailing email@example.com.
We also ask that you please download the SafeZone app so that we can check in with you at your placement location.
If you're feeling overwhelmed or struggling to deal with the ongoing impact of coronavirus, please access the Aston Wellbeing Guides or reach out to the Aston University Counselling and Mental Wellbeing Service through The Hub.
As an Aston student, you also have free access to the TogetherAll app, a safe 24/7 community to support your mental health. The World Health Organisation (WHO) also released some advice on protecting your mental health during these challenging times.
The university has a hub of information responding to the challenges of COVID-19 which you might find useful.
We also have our own student FAQs relating to questions surrounding the impact of COVID-19.
The Careers and Placements Centre on campus is currently open 10:00 am – 3:00 pm, so feel free to drop by and say hello to a member of the team.
We’re also still working remotely during our usual working hours:
Mon - Fri | 09:00am - 4:30pm or Mon-Fri | 10:00am - 4:00pm for the JobShop.
In the event of an emergency outside of office hours, please call Campus Safety (formerly known as Security) on 0121 359 2922.
