We asked BSc (Hons) International Relations and Sociology student, Katie Yang, about her time at Aston University.
Here's what she said...
For Katie, Aston University was one of the only universities in the UK to offer a degree combining both international relations and sociology. She said:
These two subjects particularly interested me as I enjoyed the idea of furthering my knowledge of social research alongside learning about our international political systems."
Katie completed her placement year at the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) as a social researcher. She said:
I was able to further develop my quantitative and qualitative research skills that I learnt through my studies through my placement.
My time at Defra provided me with an interesting contrast between academic research and government research.
It was a privilege being able to conduct social research within a government setting and having the ability to influence future policies directly through my work."
