We asked MA Forensic Linguistics graduate, Arabella Graves, about her time at Aston University.
Here's what she said...
I chose Aston [University] because it is well known to be one of the best places to study forensic linguistics, so my decision was easy!
I wanted to be around world-leaders in the field and taught by people I admire. [Aston University] are also renowned for having a practical course with lots of exciting opportunities.
The course allows you to get really hands on in working with real cases that help immerse you into how powerful forensic linguistics can be in the real world. It is fascinating to hear stories about how it has been used and then apply the skills you were taught to come to similar conclusions.
I also enjoyed being taught by engaging and enthusiastic people who encourage your own personal interests and help develop yourself academically and professionally. Everyone was very friendly and open to interesting discussions.
I currently work for Norges Bank Investment Management as a Behavioural Analyst. I apply the skills I was taught to find an information edge in communications from the management of some of the world's biggest companies.
It is still exciting to find hidden meaning in language and I love that I get to do this every day.
Aston [University] gives you incredible access to the academics that work at the Aston Institute for Forensic Linguistics and this is invaluable as you progress in your own study. I loved my time there and I would strongly encourage anyone with an interest in linguistics to study there.
