What course are you studying?
I am on the LLM International Commercial Law course. I chose to study this course, because I have always wanted to be a commercial lawyer. I believe that studying this course would help me achieve my career goals.
Why did you choose to study at Aston?
I liked the module content, I liked that Aston offered a wide range of scholarships unlike many schools I looked at. I chose Aston University because I had friends who had schooled here and loved their study experience at Aston. I also chose Aston because of its reputable career and placement team. Aston also has a very wide range of scholarships available to international students like me.
What do you enjoy about your course?
I love the course content at Aston University, I enjoy the one-to-one relationship with the lecturers and I like that the programme has imparted a lot of new knowledge about the international commercial law space. I like that it is not a repetition of the undergraduate course modules.
What are your highlights from your time so far at Aston University?
I think my highlight would be when I got free tickets to watch a match at Villa Park.
How is Aston helping to prepare you for your future career?
Aston has a program called the Aston Global Advantage where we are taught how to improve our CVs, excel in interviews, develop commercial awareness skills and how to work and be effective members of a team.
The careers and placement teams also go extra mile to meet with employers and get specific job opportunities open to Aston students. This is something I did not get in my old University. This shows Aston cares a lot about their students. This is also why Aston is highly rated for its employability in the UK.
What do you like about Birmingham?
I absolutely love living in Birmingham. It is easy to settle into the city because there is a massive international student presence. It’s easy to find anything you need because of the diversity here.
What are your career ambitions for the future?
My long-term goal has always been to be a reputable commercial lawyer and key policy influencer in Nigeria’s trade and investment landscape. This was the motivation in the first instance in undertaking a master’s degree in International Commercial Law.
What is special about Aston University?
I think Aston is special because of the specific care and attention it pays to its students’ welfare and success. The careers and placements team are always supportive in ensuring that students are able to get very good jobs after completing their studies at Aston University. I also like that the programme director is always keen on getting feedback and enhancing the overall student experience on the programme.
How would you sum up your time at Aston in one word?
Fulfilling.
I will advise anyone to apply to Aston University because of the enormous support provided by the University ranging from scholarships, to accessibility to mentors and the exposure from the Aston Global Advantage programme. I would also advise future students to take advantage of all the facilities provided, everyone is friendly and happy to support as much as they can.
