BSc (Hons) Economics and Management graduate, Delicious Orie, shares his story

Aston University graduate joins the GB Boxing team

Hi I'm Delicious Orie and I'm currently training with the GB Boxing team for the Commonwealth Games. (After recording this video Delicious went on to win the gold medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games).

I didn’t really know what I wanted to do after I graduated. I thought if I take a gap year I could take some time to think about it. Around that time, I saw Anthony Joshua on the TV and I instantly thought I want to do that.

How did you find it studying at Aston University?

I applied to Aston University, which worked very well for me because I was able to do my studies and then go to the boxing ring straight after. I lived on campus as well, so everything was here for me that I needed.

I read a lot about how Aston University caters well for business and economic students so I knew Aston was the place for me. BSc (Hons) Economics and Management was such a great course, I learned so many more things than I thought I would.

What have you learned from your time at Aston University?

I took a four-year course with a placement year. I found that the physical element where you had to go out and speak to businesses and people helped me the most. It taught me the importance of consistency and to keep striving to understand things. I then transferred this knowledge into boxing and was able to achieve great things in both aspects.

I thought Aston University was brilliant and I enjoyed every single year. The people were great. I got to meet different people from all over the world with different goals and aspirations. It was definitely one of the best experiences of my life.
