Student completes both her bachelors degree and her masters at Aston University

Jasmin Uppal not only studied BSc (Hons) Business and Management at Aston University but also MSc Human Resource Management. Since finishing her masters in 2021, she has worked for Nash Squared as a human resources (HR) administrator and now works at Air Liquide as a HR support coordinator.

Why Aston University?

Jasmin was intrigued by Aston University because she had heard lots of great things about it and her sister had such a positive experience there herself. When she attended an open day, she liked the atmosphere on campus and instantly fell in love with the University. She was also aware of the University’s fantastic reputation and liked that it was globally recognised.

Deciding to study HR after completing a business and management degree

During the course, Jasmin was given the flexibility to choose which modules she wanted to study after her first year. Jasmin decided to choose human resources and marketing related modules as these two topics really interested her. After studying these modules Jasmin’s interest grew in HR. She knew that she wanted to study for a masters In HR and after having such a great time at Aston she decided to continue with her postgraduate studies at Aston University.

Jasmin also had the opportunity to complete a placement year in Spain during her undergraduate studies which she thoroughly enjoyed.

Her current job role

Jasmin has recently landed herself a role as a HR support coordinator at Air Liquide which is an industrial gas company. Her role is extremely exciting as she has a variety of different responsibilities which includes dealing with payroll, new starters, leavers, employee lifecycle, and general admin.

Jasmin exclaims that she is able to apply lots of the theories she learned during her masters to her day-to-day work activities. She says, “the knowledge I learned has helped me to progress within my role and to understand what I’m doing and why I’m doing it."

Advice for future students

Jasmin’s main advice to students thinking of studying at Aston University is, “to make the most out of every opportunity whilst at university, and to make use of the careers and placements team who are extremely helpful, especially when searching for a placement.”

Even now that she has left, she still feels supported by the University.

Jasmin commented:

Everyone is really friendly and is looking out for you.

Use the support system in place because everyone is there to help.
