The Aston University postgraduate alumnus making his mark at L'Oréal
After studying MSc Strategic Marketing Management at Aston University, Alex started on the graduate scheme with L’Oréal in London. Here he explains how his experience studying at Aston helped him get there.
Making the most out of the pandemic
It was August 2020, only a month or so before the course was due to start, and still in the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic. I was barely working at the time and strongly felt the need to retrain, up-skill, and make the most out of the pandemic. Marketing had been at the back of my mind as a possible career option for some time, so the course really piqued my interest, especially as I was also keen on leadership and management. When I researched the University, and specifically Aston Business School, I came to learn that it was one of the highest-ranking business schools in the country with triple-crown accreditation and very promising graduate prospects. This, combined with it being local to where I was living at the time, convinced to me to submit a last-minute application for the course.
A high standard of teaching pushed me to work hard
The course was varied, technical, and in-depth, but still perfect for someone without a business or marketing background. My undergraduate degree was in music, so my biggest fear about studying a business-related masters was feeling out of my depth and not understanding a single thing! Thankfully, I didn’t find this to be the case. I was made to feel very welcome, and the high standard of both the teaching and the students really pushed me to work hard and eventually graduate with a high distinction.
