From a small village in West Sussex to working in New York City for Spotify, one of the world’s largest music streaming service providers.
Hi, my name is Nick and I studied BSc Business, Computing and IT at Aston University. I’m from a small village in West Sussex called Upper Beeding and I manage a team of campaign managers at Spotify over here in New York City. I have a team of six people and we represent a pretty large broker business over here in the United States.
The role of the campaign management function is effectively to deliver advertising campaigns across the Spotify platform.
Why did you choose to study at Aston University?
I chose to study at Aston University because I wanted to explore a new city, and because they have got a great business school.
The part I enjoyed most about my course was the depth in the subjects that I hadn’t necessarily experienced before. I enjoyed learning about the more legal side of running a business, diving a little bit more into entrepreneurship as well as developing my coding skills and building websites. I thought that the University did a great job of creating a syllabus that really went deep enough into both of those different topics but did a great job of bringing them together.
What did you do for your placement year?
I did my placement at GlaxoSmithKline in my third year, which was hugely beneficial and definitely something that was again a big reason for me studying at Aston. Having that real world experience in which you gain so much knowledge and understanding is very difficult to teach in a classroom.
What is special about Aston University and how did it help your career?
I didn't fully appreciate the value of a campus university until I visited Aston. It really helped me to feel more included in the university community, more so than somewhere that isn't.
From a personal perspective, I developed some really strong connections that I still have today. My career today has really followed the path that I started whilst at Aston University. Having the DNA of a business school and having that entrepreneurship running through many of the courses has helped encourage me to think a bit differently. Aston University really gave me some of that entrepreneurial DNA that has massively helped me through my career.

If you're thinking about studying at Aston University, I would say it's one of the most rewarding experiences that I've had both personally and professionally. It's set me up on a great path for my career and has allowed me to build a great network of friends.
