Tell us about the competition you recently took part in?
It was my first time participating in an international case competition, and I wasn't entirely sure what to expect but, now I can safely say it was one of the best weeks I’ve experienced in my four years at Aston University. Working on real-life business problems really allowed me to put my learnings into practice and it was amazing to see how the different skillsets in our team complemented the different problem questions in the cases. It was a very steep learning curve and an incredible opportunity to work on my problem-solving and presentation skills. I also enjoyed watching the finalists deliver their presentations and understand what makes a truly great analysis. Lastly, with 16 universities from around the world coming together for this competition, the opportunity to network and make new friends was immense.
Why you chose Aston University?
Having an international background, I wanted to pursue a degree which would play into my strengths. Aston University and BSc International Business and Management specifically fitted that checklist. I liked the idea of starting to study a broad range of subjects with the ability to specialise in key areas as I chose my optional modules in the following years. What ultimately sold it for me was the mandatory year in industry. When I started at Aston, I didn't know what I wanted to do after graduation, but by speaking to other students and the programme director I realised the skills I was going to gain from both the course and placement was immediately apparent.
What have you enjoyed most about studying at Aston University?
Another reason I chose Aston was its location - Birmingham is a great student city so I am never short of things to do. Additionally, having so many international students around - whether they were doing a full degree with Aston or an exchange semester - made campus a really buzzing environment.
Any experience/activity that stands out?
Most definitely the clubs and societies, the committees do an amazing job of organising events and socials throughout the year, and my favourite was definitely the Wednesday sports night.
Any advice for those thinking of coming to Aston University to study?
Aston is a great place to study at, especially if you want to implement an international lens on your interests. Take the time to understand what motivates you and compare that with Aston's offerings, and definitely reach out to your course's programme director who would also be able to put you in touch with the current course reps - there are no better people to ask questions than those who have been in your shoes before.
