The competition was a once in a lifetime opportunity to get in front of senior employees and academics to battle it out against other universities, trying to convivence company’s such as Lufthansa group, Kenoby and Qiagen on how best to leverage macroenvironmental trends not only to survive in rapidly changing climates but also thrive.
Why did you choose Aston University?
Aston university was my first choice purely due to the universities extensive links to industry and vast sandwich degree options, which ensured I’d complete my bachelors with real-life work experience, making me an attractive prospect to companies after graduating.
What have you enjoyed most about studying at Aston University?
I’ve enjoyed Aston University’s assessment style the most, especially as delivering professional pitches, academic posters and collaborating with teams to execute group tasks has allowed me to get a real taste of working in the real world and really engage in my academic studies.
Any experience/activity that stands out?
Aston University’s sandwich degree structure provided me with the opportunity to work for Enterprise Rent-A-Car, one of the world’s leading mobility providers in commercial and personal transportation. Within my year in industry, I had the privilege of completing Enterprise’s management trainee scheme, which gave me the chance to learn how to run my own rental operation, drive business through executing local marketing plans and professionally develop new employees to deliver excellent customer service.
Any advice for those thinking of coming to Aston University to study?
My advice for anyone considering Aston University would be to opt for a sandwich degree with a compulsory year in industry. With the increasing uncertainty businesses face, leaving university with experience will be invaluable when establishing trust with employers and securing graduate roles. Aston University also has an excellent careers and placement team who provide support from interview tips to a smashing assessment centre which makes finding internship and graduate opportunities a breeze.
