We spoke with Anusha Kumar, an MBA graduate, about her experience working at Design Factory Birmingham.
Here's what she had to say...
Design Factory Birmingham is a creative design and digital innovation space at Aston University, providing consulting services in: Design Innovation, Design Thinking, Artificial Intelligence, Additive Manufacturing, Data Science, Service Design, Prototyping, Digital Bootcamps, Web, App and Graphic Design.
The Design Factory at Aston University is a state-of-the-art facility designed to inspire and facilitate innovation and design. It’s a unique space where business students, alongside other disciplines, can collaborate with staff, industry partners, and entrepreneurs to create real-world solutions. "
I got involved with the Design Factory by following all ongoing projects and news related to Aston University on LinkedIn and I saw the advert for the role.
I am a Senior Software Developer at the Design Factory and my role involves developing a wide array of digital products, including applications and websites tailored to meet the specific needs of our diverse clientele. I am currently immersed in developing a comprehensive website for the Decarbonisation Net Zero Programme, an initiative aimed at promoting sustainable practices and reducing carbon emissions by collaborating closely with subject matter experts and stakeholders.
The MBA programme provided me with invaluable knowledge and skills that have been instrumental in securing and succeeding in this role. The course has given me a well-rounded understanding of how organisations function and how to drive growth through effective decision-making.
The emphasis on data-driven decision-making and analytical skills has prepared me to interpret market trends, consumer behaviour, and performance metrics, enabling me to make informed choices.
The MBA has provided me with a strong foundation in business principles, leadership skills, and critical thinking abilities, which have been instrumental in securing this opportunity and contributing effectively to the organisation's success. Furthermore, the MBA programme has equipped me to approach challenges from multiple perspectives and develop holistic solutions.
For those considering getting involved with the Design Factory...
I would advise maintaining an open mindset for embracing diverse perspectives, exploring innovative solutions, and being receptive to constructive feedback.
I would also advise cultivating the ability to think critically and ensuring a strong foundational knowledge base, which you can build advanced expertise, drive innovation, and navigate intricate scenarios with confidence. "
For those considering studying the MBA...
Ensure that your expertise in your current industry is solid, as the MBA will build on this foundation.
Think cross-functionally and be open to exploring new industries or business models to broaden your perspective.
The MBA is as much about personal growth and professional relationships as it is about acquiring specialised knowledge, so take full advantage of the program's resources.”
