2014

Rail Safety Solutions (RSS)
- What career path are you currently pursuing?
I’m currently working in the rail industry within the Rail Safety Solutions (RSS) Human Resources department. I’ve been able to see and learn so much working here, it’s been less than 12 months, but I feel as though I’ve been working here for years because of the experience I’m gaining.
- What help did Aston University provide to help you secure your placement?
The PDP has provided new opportunities for me, and I’m doing things now that I didn’t know I could do before in terms of working in the rail sector with a range of professional clients.
I’m not sure I would be where I am today if it wasn’t for the PDP - I met my current manager at an Aston University jobs fair in 2017. Employers were available on the day for one-to-one discussions with students about career opportunities. I was offered a job with RSS not long after sharing my CV at the fair.
- Has the PDP placement made you more employable and successful in your career?
Finding professional job opportunities for international students can be challenging, but the PDP has been extremely valuable for me in finding work to align with my career plan. I would be very disappointed if the PDP ever ended; I think international students can benefit from it greatly.
- Are you enjoying your placement? If so, which elements of the job do you enjoy the most?
Yes, I am enjoying it a lot. Transport is a crucial sector across the world, and it’s rewarding to know that I now have the knowledge to help other people to find job opportunities within the field.
- What are your future career plans for when your placement concludes?
The PDP ends in March 2019 for me but Aston University continues sponsoring my visa for another year, so I would like to keep working in the UK. I’ve really enjoyed being able to make a difference and create job opportunities for a range of professional clients during my time at RSS.
