Teaching and research

We are known for our high-quality teaching and our research underpins our teaching activities. This commitment ensures we provide the highest standard of education to our students. Our research makes a real difference to people, organisations and society and 79% of Aston University’s research is ‘world leading’ or ‘internationally excellent’ (REF, 2021). Our research teams work closely with industry, business, government, services, communities and charities to provide innovative, practical answers to real problems. We have five Research Institutes specialising in national and international research.

City centre campus

Our green, sustainable and self-contained campus has accommodation, teaching spaces, shops, cafes and more on a single site. Aston University is centrally located in the heart of the dynamic city of Birmingham, minutes away from vibrant nightlife, entertainment and shopping venues.

We are a close-knit, friendly campus community. There are over 130 clubs and societies, fantastic sporting facilities, and an award-winning Students’ Union. Aston University is ranked joint 17th out of 154 UK universities against sustainability and ethics criteria, putting us in the People and Planet League’s 1st Class category.
