Mike Caine
Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Engagement & Innovation)
Mike is a Strategic Advisor to the National Centre for Universities and Business and has contributed to several policy shaping reports on University Business Partnerships. He has been a Visiting Professor at MIT and has collaborated with MIT colleagues in the development and deployment of initiatives to support regional Innovation Clusters across the UK. Mike also recently completed a Senior Civil Service Secondment at the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy as Head of Innovation Ecosystems. Mike has co-founded two spin-out companies, including as a PhD student at the University of Birmingham, and has successfully commercialised a portfolio of patents and associated intellectual property assets during his 25 years as a company director.
Speaking about his appointment, Mike commented: ‘Birmingham is one of the world’s great cities, and Aston one of the UK’s most vibrant and dynamic civic universities. It’s a privilege for me to be joining Professor Aleks Subic as a member of the Executive Team at this important and exciting time in the University’s development. I look forward to working with the whole University community, to co-create, through partnerships and collaboration, a brighter future for all.’
