Post 16 Taster Sessions

Aston taster sessions
Our taster sessions provide stimulating workshops from Aston University academics at the forefront of their subject area. These sessions offer a great opportunity for Year 12 – 13 and Level 3 students to enrich their current studies and to discover more about studying at university. The events not only allow students to explore their chosen subject area, but also the opportunity to meet our current undergraduate students to find out more about university life.

This year, we will be running taster sessions across all five of our academic schools. Students are more than welcome to book on to these events individually and attend without teacher supervision but please make sure that you have read and understood our cancellation policy for these events. 

These events are for Year 12 – 13 and Level 3 students thinking about applying to study business and business related subjects at university. The day will include:

  • A welcome talk
  • Two subject sessions in areas such as Business, Law, Marketing, Economics and Management 
  • Optional campus tour with our current undergraduate students  


Aston Business and Law School events will be taking place this year on;

  • Wednesday 13th December 2017: 12.00pm – 3.30pm (4.00pm with optional campus tour)
    The two subject sessions for this day are Business Management and Economics.Please note, this is subject to change


  • Wednesday 7th February 2018: 12.00pm – 3.30pm (4.00pm with optional campus tour)
     The two subject sessions for this day are Law and Marketing. Please note, this is subject to change

 


Taster sessions are free to attend but booking is essential and a maximum of 20 places per school/college will be allocated on a first come first served basis in the first instance.

These events are for Year 12 – 13 and Level 3 students thinking about applying to study Medicine at university. The days will include:

  • A welcome talk
  • Subject Taster Session in Medicine 
  • Optional campus tour with our current undergraduate students 

Aston Medical School events will be taking place this year on:

  • Wednesday 14th February 2018: 12.00pm – 3.30pm (4.00pm with optional campus tour)
  • Wednesday 4th July 2018: 12.00pm – 3.30pm (4.00pm with optional campus tour)

These events are for Year 12 – 13 and Level 3 students thinking about applying to study Engineering and Applied Sciences at university. The days will include:
  • A welcome talk
  • Subject sessions in areas such as Chemistry, Computer Science, Logistics and 3D Modelling 
  • Optional campus tour with our current undergraduate students 


Engineering and Applied Science events will be taking place this year on

  • Wednesday 28th February 2018: 12.00pm – 3.30pm (4.00pm with optional campus tour)
    The subject session for this day is Computer Science. Please note, this is subject to change.


  • Wednesday 25th April 2018: 12.00pm – 3.30pm (4.00pm with optional campus tour)
    Students will need to choose one of the following strands (Please note, this is subject to change):
  1. 3D Modelling (Architecture, Construction, Computer aided design
  2. Chemistry
  3. Logistics: Supply chain decision making with delivered by Jaguar Land Rover

  • A welcome talk
  • Two subject sessions in areas such as Modern Foreign Languages, Sociology and English 
  • Optional campus tour with our current undergraduate students 


Languages and Social Sciences events will be taking place this year on

  • Wednesday 16th May 2018: 12.00pm – 3.30pm (4.00pm with optional campus tour)
    The two subject sessions for this day are Politics and Sociology. Please note, this is subject to change.

  • Wednesday 20th June 2018: 12.00pm – 3.30pm (4.00pm with optional campus tour)
    The two subject sessions for this day are English and History. Please note, this is subject to change.

  • A welcome talk
  • Two subject sessions in areas such as Biology, Biomedicine, Psychology, Pharmacy and Optometry. 
  • Optional campus tour with our current undergraduate students 


Life and Health Science events will be taking place this year on:

  • Wednesday 22nd November 2017: 12.30pm – 4.00pm (4.30pm with optional campus tour)
    The two subject sessions for this day are Biological Sciences and Optometry. Please note, this is subject to change.

 

  • Wednesday 7th February 2018: 12.00pm – 3.30pm (4.00pm with optional campus tour)
    The two subject sessions for this day are Neuroscience and Psychology. Please note, this is subject to change.

We are also able to offer (for a minimum of 50 students) taster sessions at your institution in a range of subject areas. These sessions will be delivered by our current undergraduate Student Ambassadors. To enquire about these sessions, please email sro@aston.ac.uk with your requirements.
