Our LLB Law with Management degree has proved very popular with students wanting to study law with other subjects, including accounting and economics.  For those wanting to spend more time studying law, we offer an LLB Law degree. This programme includes new modules including Jurisprudence, Commercial Law and Taxation.

The opportunity to undertake an extended research project (dissertation) is also be provided. As with our LLB Law with Management programme, the LLB is a qualifying law degree and focuses on law and legal practice in a commercial context.

 The opportunity to spend the third year on placement is also be available.

You will experience a range of teaching methods including lectures, tutorials, group-working, guest lectures, visits to law courts, and case studies. Traditional teaching is supported by a virtual learning environment that is used to host a range of electronic supporting materials.

Mooting and presentations are used to develop advocacy skills and problem solving exercises are used extensively to help apply legal knowledge to real life situations.

Assessment is provided by a mix of coursework and examination.

Our integrated placement year allows you to undertake a professional paid placement, where you gain valuable practical experience. We have links to over 1000 different organisations and advertise around 3000 posts each year.

The placement year also increases your commercial awareness and gives you the opportunity to apply your knowledge and skills in practice.

This is a qualifying law degree. It is recognised by the Solicitors Regulation Authority and Bar Standards Board as satisfying the academic stage of legal training for solicitors or barristers. As an Aston LLB graduate you can therefore proceed directly to the Legal Practice Course or Bar Professional Training Course.

Graduates can also gain exemptions from the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators and the Chartered Insurance Institute.

This degree will appeal to anyone wishing to pursue a career as a solicitor or barrister. A degree in law also provides an excellent foundation for a variety of careers in the private and public sectors where legal knowledge is needed, including taxation, accountancy, consultancy and human resource management.

This degree is designed to also give you a range of transferable and practical skills to help you succeed within your chosen career. We make extensive use of group working and presentations to prepare you for the reality of working life. Such work develops your team working and negotiating skills.

Our placement year gives you the genuine practical experience that is invaluable in developing an appreciation of legal, business and cultural issues which cannot be fully replicated in the lecture room.

Our teaching accommodation has very recently been completely refurbished and all lecture theatres and seminar rooms are fully equipped with the latest teaching aids. Extensive use is made of our Virtual Learning Environment to help support your studies. 

Aston Business School has dedicated computer suites for the exclusive use of its undergraduates and many campus areas are WI-FI networked. The university library facilities are extensive, modern and accessible and specialist staff are available to help you find the information you need.

Ryan Murphy joined Aston Law in September 2011. Ryan is the Course Director for the LLB Law and LLB Law with Management Programmes. In 2013, he was nominated by students to receive an Aston Excellence Award (Outstanding Teacher of the Year).

Professor Jill Poole
Deputy Dean
Jill specialises in contract law, corporate law and commercial law, particularly arbitration, banking law and competition law. Jill also has a particular interest in comparative corporate governance and regulation and comparative contract law, particularly formation issues.

Claire Howell
Senior Lecturer
Claire has teaching experience at both undergraduate and postgraduate level of Company Law; Sale of Goods and Agency, Contract law, Employment Law and Intellectual Property Law. Claire's research interests are in Company and Intellectual Property Law.
