IMC ABS MSc Finance
Our finance degree will provide you with an excellent preparation for a career within a financial environment giving you a balanced mix of finance, accounting and more general management knowledge, skills and expertise.

The degree explores many aspects of finance such as capital markets, derivatives, corporate finance, exchange rate risks, asset pricing and international finance.

In addition, this degree is designed to give you a range of transferable skills to help you succeed with your chosen career.  As well as traditional lectures and tutorials, we make use of group working and presentations to help prepare you for the reality of working life.  Such activities help develop important skills such as self-confidence, team working, time management and negotiation skills and this approach contributes to our enviable reputation for producing highly employable graduates.

Year 1

You will follow the Aston Business School common first year studying a wide range of business subjects. This approach gives you a solid foundation in all of the key areas of business and management. The modules are:

Year 2

From the second year you will explore financial and management accounting in depth, participate in events organised in conjunction with accountancy firms, visit businesses and undertake an interactive business game module

Your degree begins its specialist emphasis upon finance and financial management. The modules are:

Year 3

Professional placement year in finance, accountancy or management role or you have the option to undertake an international study placement. This year is compulsory for all UK and EU students.

Final Year

In this year studies are taken to a more refined level, similar to a professional qualification standard, but retaining theoretical analysis. The modules are:

You will experience a range of teaching methods including lectures, tutorials, group-working, case studies and both individual and group presentations. Traditional teaching is supported by a virtual learning environment that is used to host a range of electronic supporting materials.

For example all business students undertake the Business Game module and compete in teams in a computer simulation exercise that culminates in a presentation to a panel of external employers

Assessment is provided by a mix of coursework and examination.

On successful completion of this degree, the specialist financial knowledge gained provides excellent preparation for graduate entry into finance related careers such as investment or retail banking, financial analysis, stock broking or insurance.  However, because this degree also combines broader-based business knowledge, it provides an excellent foundation for careers in general management and imparts skills that will be highly valued by graduate recruiters in both the private and public sectors.
