Our foundation programmes in science are for applicants without the required qualifications to enter directly onto the first year of their chosen programmes. For international students this may be because further tuition in English is required, or because the education system in their country does not provide education considered equivalent to A-levels. Home students may chose to apply for these programmes either because they have not studied A levels in the required subjects for their chosen programmes, or because they do not have the required grades. Both programmes are taught together. As these programmes are integrated with a particular degree (assuming the required grades are achieved) you must specify the degree that you are interested in pursuing on application so that we can fully assess your suitability. Different entry grades are required for different degree programmes.

This course is for you if you wish to study one of the most exciting and rapidly developing areas of the Life and Medical Sciences. This course is for you if you did not achieve the grades required for automatic progression onto the UK pre-registration period, your certificate of clinical competence has expired or you obtained an optometry qualification from outside the UK. Learn from academics with a world-class reputation for research and ophthalmologists from several local eye departments.
