The School of Languages and Social Sciences at Aston University appealed to me because of the truly integrated language and International Business course, where key business modules are taught in the relevant language. Of equal importance, in an increasingly competitive market, is the year on year graduate employment success, as the placement team has key links with businesses in many high profile industries. Furthermore, the friendly, tight-knit community on campus is an attractive feature of the University.

The classes are relatively small meaning the lecturers get to know the students personally and they are always on hand to give advice. All the staff are approachable so if there is a problem there will be someone around to help you. The strong community feel is reflected in all parts of the University, particularly through the various clubs, societies and events organised by the Guild.

I am very much looking forward to my placement year, as it will be an excellent opportunity not only to gain business experience by putting theory into practice, but also to further improve my language skills. A year in industry will allow me to gain valuable insight into International Businesses as well as experiencing cultures in a work and social environment. This is a chance to build relationships and networks, which may provide future employment opportunities after University.

The close proximity to the centre of Birmingham makes Aston University a very inviting place to study with easy access to the many local amenities. Situated at the heart of the city, the modern newly built Bullring offers a fantastic selection of shops and cafes or just outside the centre is the Mail Box which includes a variety of boutiques and restaurants- a definite must to visit! Broad Street is a particular attraction for students with the vast number of pubs and clubs creating a lively atmosphere to suit all tastes. For those interested in music and drama, the Rep Theatre is centrally located and has something for all to enjoy.'
