MSc Organisational Psychology and Business

This programme develops an understanding of the factors associated with the effectiveness and well-being of people at work. It is designed for graduates who intend to make a career as an organisational psychologist and who also want to gain some wider business awareness.

MSc Work Psychology and Business

This programme is designed for graduates with a good first degree in Psychology (not accredited by the British Psychological Society) who intend to make a career as an organisational psychologist and who also want to gain some wider business awareness.  It gives psychologists a unique opportunity to study business alongside specialist work psychology modules.

Organisational Psychology is at the core of our understanding of healthy and effective organisations and employees.  There is world-wide demand for well-qualified work psychologists and this programme will enable students to operate within a global workplace.

Applicants who do not hold a first degree in Psychology but would be interested in studying similar modules as the MSc in Work/Organisational Psychology & Business may wish to view details on our programme in MSc in Organisational Behaviour.

The overall aim of the programme is to develop students’ understanding from a predominantly psychological perspective, of the factors associated with the effectiveness and well-being of people at work and organisations.

In addition to your Aston degree, you will have the opportunity to participate in our international study exchange programme. Entry Requirements (one of the following):

  • A good UK honours degree (minimum lower second class) in Psychology

  • Equivalent overseas degree recognised by Aston University.

The qualification does not need to be BPS-accredited. If your qualification is BPS-accredited, you would qualify for our MSc Work Psychology & Business. You can check your qualification at http://www.bps.org.uk/bpslegacy/ac

As well as:

  • Two professional references – at least one must be from an academic referee

  • An official academic transcript of your university grades to date

  • A completed application form.

For International Students:

  • An official academic transcript, with an official English translation, of your university grades to date

  • Students whose native language is not English will also need to satisfy our English language requirements Pre-sessional English language programmes are available for good applicants whose English qualification falls just short of these requirements.

Dr Stephen Woods
BSc, MSc, PhD
Steve joined the Work and Organisational Psychology Group in 2007 as Lecturer and Course Director for MSc Courses in Work/Organisational Psychology and Business, and MSc Organisational Behaviour.  Prior to joining the group, Steve was a Lecturer in Occupational Psychology at the Institute of Work, Health and Organisations at the University of Nottingham.  He is Visiting Lecturer in Occupational Psychology at the University of Nottingham (Malaysia Campus) and at City University.  Steve is well known in the UK and internationally for his work on personality trait assessment and structure, publishing his work in peer-reviewed journals, books, and at conferences.  Since 2001, Steve has also worked as an assessment consultant with private and public centre clients on selection and development projects, most recently in South East Asia.

Research interests include: Work Group Diversity, Effectiveness and Learning; Multi-level Modelling; Organisational Culture Effectiveness.

Dr Michael Butler

Certificate in Field Archaeology, BA, PhD
Michael's teaching reflects his research interests in change management/strategy, decision-making (behavioural), discourse analysis, government and society and organisation behaviour/theory.  In particular, he is currently researching two streams of activity: downsizing in the motor industry and the neurosciences of leadership and decision-making.  A connecting theme is surfacing underlying organisational processes in order to more effectively manage organisations.

Professor Robin Martin
Research interests include: Social influence processes, especially from numerical majorities and minorities; Persuasion and attitude change; Workplace leadership; Motivation; Teamworking and Innovation.

This programme is relevant to those planning careers in all organisational settings in both the public and private sectors.
