Aston University's Bicycle User Group, or AstBUG, is here to offer support and information to Aston University staff and student cyclists, as well as those interested in giving it a go!
There are multiple benefits to becoming an AstBUG member, as outlined below. Membership is free for staff and students - all you need to do is email Tim Hooton on firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com.
AstBUG Member Benefits
Be the first to hear about free AstBUG events: cyclists' breakfasts, Dr Bike sessions, second hand bike sales, led rides, training and more. We support Bike Week and Cycle to Work Day each year and hold events throughout the year to raise awareness of the benefits of cycling: get fit, save money, beat stress and save the environment!
See our events calendar at the bottom of this page to keep up to date. We are now working with Bike Right to offer FREE cycle training and maintenance classes on campus. More details can be found here or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
‘D Locks’ are recognised by the police and cycling organisations as being one of the most secure for your bike. If you sign up as an AstBUG member, you are eligible to purchase a ‘D Lock’ at a discounted rate of £10; this can be purchased from Security (to the right of the Front Desk in Main Building Reception).
AstBUG members can access the changing facilities, especially useful for those cycling a longer distance. We have male and female changing facilities on the Lower Ground with showers, a drying room and lockers to store a change of clothes, helmets etc.
There are two bikes on campus available for Aston University staff and students to borrow on a short-term basis, completely free of charge.
Once you have signed up to be an AstBUG member, fill in the Bicycle Hire Agreement Form below and get in touch with Sara Wilkes to see if either of the bikes are available: email@example.com / 0121 204 4969.

Although there are security personnel and CCTV facilities on site, bikes are always at risk of being stolen. Please ensure your bike is locked securely. It is recommended to use a D lock (which can be purchased from Security - see above). Lock the frame and wheel high up on the cycle stand so it's more difficult to manoeuver, ensuring you lock any quick release wheels - you may need more than one lock.
There are over 200 cycle parking spaces on campus, with more on the way! If a particular shelter is full, it is very likely that there will be a free space at another shelter. you can find the locations of these shelters in our Green Guide.
Please do not park your bike anywhere other than the designated parking spaces; you risk having your bike moved by Security if it is found to be inappropriately parked. Please refer to the Abandoned and Inappropriately Parked Bicycle Policy if you have any queries.
If you have any cycling queries or suggestions, please email firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com.

Every time you walk, cycle, get the bus, train or tram in the West Midlands area you could be earning ‘Better Points’. You can redeem these points for high street vouchers – Arcadia, New Look, Sainsbury’s, Amazon and John Lewis are to name but a few. Alternatively, if you’re feeling benevolent you can donate your points to a charity of your choice instead! You will need a smart phone to download; search for Better Points or find out more on their website.
