Schools and Colleges Liaison Celebration Event

On Monday 9 May Schools and Colleges Liaison held their annual Celebration Event

On Monday 9 May, Schools and Colleges Liaison (SCL) held their annual Celebration Event, to award and acknowledge the achievements of all students who have been involved in the diverse programmes run through the SCL Office.

Students were awarded certificates for their contribution to community outreach activities and widening participation work. Their achievements were also recognised by Professor Helen Higson who paid tribute to Aston University students’ participation culture.

Students were acknowledged for their participation in:

  • The Student Tutoring Scheme, where students volunteer their time to support local primary, secondary, colleges and special schools

  • E-mentoring, where Aston university students volunteer to become on line mentors to sixth form/college students helping to raise aspirations and give advice and guidance on HE progression

  • Student Volunteer Week, where students are involved in a series of one off volunteering events supporting the work of local charities and community groups

  • Numeracy in Nechells, where students volunteer their time to support primary school students in developing numeracy skills

  • The Aimhigher Associate Scheme, where students work in local secondary schools and sixth forms  to raise the aspirations of pupils aged between 14 -18

  • The Student Ambassador Scheme, where Aston students represent the University to the outside world through supporting activities such as Campus Tours, Higher Education Fairs and Schools visits.
