Placements Team

I am pleased to inform you that following the Placements Review, the Aston University Undergraduate Placements Team is now formally in place, find us based within the Careers Centre (1st floor South Wing.) The new team will form part of a wider Employability department led by me as the Director of Employability; this also includes the Careers team, Graduate Advantage (GA) and the Jobshop.  

It is business as usual for placements at Aston, with the team working hard to make the transition to a centralised team as smooth as possible to ensure seamless support to students, employers and staff.

The Placements Team’s key objectives are:

  • To increase the number of students undertaking a placement year and to develop more opportunities for other work-based experience

  • To offer an enhanced service to employers and to increase the number of placements and work based learning opportunities

  • To continue to link with the Careers Centre and academic staff to help create the most employable students.

The Placements Team is headed up by Etta Parkes and made up of 16 staff, some existing and some new people across three interlinked teams:

The Student Support Team provides a programme of support for students to maximise their potential success in their placement search and whilst on placement. Each school of study has a dedicated placement coordinator who will provide students with the most relevant placement information for their degree programme. The International Team provides support to students undertaking work and study placements overseas, students on the Erasmus scheme, International students and employers and institutions overseas. Contact the International Team on ext 4998 or email internationalplacements@aston.ac.uk.

The Employer Engagement Team offers a single point of contact for employers, making it easier for employers from all sectors and industries to engage with Aston University for placement activities. Contact the Employer Support Team if you have any placement leads or enquiries on ext 5299 or email placements@aston.ac.uk.

There is a full communications plan in place for students to announce the changes to undergraduate placements and confirm their placement support contacts. All students will have received an email by the end of this week, detailing arrangements for their year group.
