Lunchtime canal walk for staff

‘Active Aston’ – Lunchtime Canal Walk

On Tuesday last week, a group of 20 staff took an hour at lunchtime to go on a walk along the local canal. This was the first of a number of walks planned by the newly formed Wellbeing group to encourage staff out of the office, get some fresh air and exercise and find out a bit more about the local area.

The walk was led by Anne Perkins from the Library who shared her knowledge of the history of the canal and the local area. It was a beautiful day and all of the staff who went really enjoyed it.

It was a great opportunity to explore and get a completely different perspective of the local area. Most of us would not do this on our own and it was good to talk to people that we don’t work with regularly. I can’t remember when I enjoyed a lunch break so much....

Future walks are planned for Wednesday 26 May and Wednesday 16 June at 12:30pm. There's no need to book - just meet outside Woodcock Sports Centre. The walks last no longer than an hour.

The next Wellbeing walk is on Friday 24 September, along the local canal network. If you'd like to come along, please meet in the Main Building Reception at 12:30pm. This walk has been scheduled during the international student Welcome Week so please encourage any new students to come along and explore their local area! Dates for walks between October and December will be available soon. Louise Russell14/09/2010 15:59:11
Are there any more of these walks planned? Tamsen Poole14/09/2010 15:26:20
Maybe we could hire/beg the Balsall Heath Local History society (http://www.balsallheathhistory.co.uk/birmingham-history-theatre-group/) to do of their Lunar Society re-enactment walk - it's very entertaining and covers a lot of the area around Aston.Lucy Bastin18/05/2010 20:05:00
